永城辣椒,因產(chǎn)于河南商丘永城縣故得名為“永城辣椒”。永城辣椒是深受當(dāng)?shù)厝藗兯矏鄣囊环N蔬菜,它是河南特色優(yōu)質(zhì)農(nóng)產(chǎn)品。在國際市場上被稱為“永椒”。據(jù)科學(xué)測定,它除含辣椒素外,還含有龍葵甙、脂肪油、維生素C及揮 發(fā)油。特別是維生素C在蔬菜中占居首位。不但對維持人體生理平衡有重要作用,又有抑制癌病的功效。除鮮食、腌制外,還可加工成辣椒醬、辣椒油供人們佐食。所以,它是一種很好的辛辣 蔬菜和調(diào)味佳品。

相傳,漢末醫(yī)學(xué)家華佗曾對家鄉(xiāng)(永城市龍崗鄉(xiāng)華佗村人)紅艷艷的辣椒專門進(jìn)行過研究,發(fā)現(xiàn)這種辣椒不僅是上等的調(diào)味蔬菜,而且還有消化和胃、行血健脾之功效。他贊不絕口地說:“好椒!好椒!”自此以后,永城成為馳名全國的“永椒之鄉(xiāng)”。
永城辣椒種植歷史悠久,以永城酂城、龍崗所產(chǎn)辣椒最佳。以永城辣椒為辣椒為原料加工而成的辣椒油、辣椒磚等制品暢銷京、滬、穗等城市,并遠(yuǎn)銷于香港、澳門、日本、美國、印尼、新加坡、馬來西亞、緬甸等10多個國家地區(qū)。
