魯臺大蔥，中州土特名產。栽培歷史悠久。傳說春秋魯國秋胡居官于陳，五年未歸，為解思鄉之情，筑望魯臺（今稱魯臺）眺望故里，每至深夜常食大蔥抵御風寒，故鄉人多有種大蔥之習，延至以后面積漸廣。其白長肥嫩，味辣沖鼻，蔥花能浮湯面。
       
    據淮陽縣志記載，魯臺為新石器時代文化遺址。相傳春秋時魯人秋胡，任于陳居此，常思念家鄉，筑高臺以望魯，故稱望魯臺，亦稱秋胡臺，為淮陽“七臺八景”之一。北宋一代名將狄青曾與遼軍大戰于魯臺弱5公里瓦崗坡，戰死葬于此，現有狄青墓，位于魯臺東北2公里處。抗日戰爭和解放戰爭期間魯臺曾是周口中心縣委所在地。 　
       
    魯臺是農業大鎮。全鎮有耕地面積65000畝，農作物主要是小麥、玉米、大豆。魯臺大蔥是名優土特產。栽培歷史悠久，品味獨特，遠銷于河南、安徽、河北等省。2003年栽種面積4200畝，年產蔥1000萬公斤。畜牧養殖業發展迅速，全鎮現有千頭以上養豬場3處，500頭以上8處，100頭以上18處，現有母豬存欄2000頭，年出售生豬4萬頭以上，年產值2800萬元。千只以上養雞場50處，年產值300萬元，全鎮山羊存欄4萬只以上。



 

Lutai Shallots 

   
    Lutai shallot is a famous specialty in Henan Province, which has a long cultivating history. It's said that in Chunqiu and Zhangou Era, Qiu Hu had been an official in Chenguo Country for 5 years. He was so homesick that he established a Lookout Plat to see his hometown, when at night he ate shallots to prevent cold weather. Later, people there set cultivating shallots as a custom gradually and enlarged planting areas. Lutai shallots have characteristics of white, long, fat, tender, pungent and chopped shallot being floated on soup.
