桃是我國的主要水果大類之一,多于夏秋之際成熟上市。而冬桃則是在嚴冬采摘上市,以核小肉嫩,甘甜清脆而著名,是罕見而珍貴的桃中奇品,也是饋贈賓朋好友的佳品。
“萬山冬桃”是滎陽市喬樓鎮槐樹洼村自1986年引進種植的桃樹品種, 因生長在海拔較高的萬山,成熟期在大雪紛飛、草木凋零的萬山而得名。
萬山冬桃屬桃子極晚熟品種的一個品系,因成熟期在大雪紛飛、草木凋零的萬山而得名,是種一奇特、罕見的果品。它以核小肉嫩,甘甜清脆而著名,表面微紅色,很耐貯存。萬山冬桃果實厚重,汁多味濃,脆甜可口,外表形神兼備,光澤艷麗,同時又具有極高的營養價值。據測定,萬山冬桃維生素C含量為每百克31.69 毫克,是彌猴桃的3.4倍,蘋果的6.3倍;含可溶性物質13.7%,蛋白質17.3%,約是蘋果的86.5倍,含糖13%左右,每百克果肉含胡蘿卜素 0.01毫克,核黃素0.02毫克,維生素C6毫克,富含鈣、磷、鐵等礦物質。被科學家稱為天然保健極品。
近年來,我市又通過芽變迭種培育出品質更優,最大單果重量超斤的冬桃衍變新品種——萬山壽桃,再次轟動全國。萬山冬桃于十月下旬成熟,生長期長,由于萬山晝夜溫差大,光照充足,營養積累豐富,含糖量高,口感脆甜,且耐儲藏,在冷庫儲存可保鮮一個月,其中“天王”“十月紅”等品種更是備受人們青睞。目前全市冬桃種植面積達2萬余畝,年產3000萬公斤以上,“萬山冬桃”除了銷售到鄭州,開封,洛陽等省內城市外,還遠銷到北京、上海、廣州、云南、貴州、深圳、珠海等大城市并曾專供人民大會堂國宴,是饋贈賓朋好友的佳品。
