息縣是全省生豬出口基地縣之一。息生豬是河南瘦肉型良種豬，息縣名產(chǎn)之一，其體形長，臀部和前胸肌肉豐滿，肉質(zhì)結(jié)實，含水份少，以瘦肉率高、色鮮味美享譽港澳和國際市場。1984年9月香港試宰，瘦肉率27%以上的占36.7%，25-27%的占3.02%，25%以下的占30.02%。省外貿(mào)公司試宰，瘦肉率最高達31.6%，其中，70%達到國家規(guī)定的特種豬、良種豬標準。其瘦肉呈鮮紅色，在港澳等熱帶地區(qū)24小時內(nèi)不變色、不走味，保持原有營養(yǎng)成份，烹調(diào)成菜香氣純正，味道鮮美。
