內黃紅棗栽種歷史悠久,早在 1500 多年前便有大面積的棗林。 1987 年農棗間作面積達 18333hm2, 有棗樹 450 萬棵,年產鮮棗 30000t, 在全國縣級產量中占第一位。
內黃紅棗品種較多,現有 51 個品種,其中以扁核酸為大宗,占棗樹株數的 90% 以上。扁核酸抗旱耐澇,抗高溫耐瘠薄,沙丘上的棗樹也能豐產,是良好的防風固沙的樹種。扁核酸果實中大,呈圓筒形,9 月下旬成熟,果皮色紅,肉綠白色。核較大,扁平,味略酸,故稱“扁核酸 ”。干果約 180 個 1kg 。鮮果酥脆多汁,酸甜可口;干果味香甜,有彈性,耐貯運。
內黃紅棗不但是一種營養豐富的果品,而且還有很多的藥用價值。中醫理論認為,紅棗味甘性平、健胃養脾、補血壯神、安中益氣,是清潤滋補的佳品。棗花還是很好的蜜源,每年棗花盛開季節,全國各地蜂群云集內黃達萬群以上,年產棗花蜜 500t, 除國內銷售外,還遠銷美國、日本等。現在每年生產的干棗除直接銷往國內各地和香港、日本、東南亞各國和地區外,還進一步進行深加工。內黃縣的“春夏棗茶” 飲料現已走俏省內外,成為市場的搶手貨。
